The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s war on street food – the best in the world from where we stand – gets real today as the deadline for vendors in the city’s Thong Lor, Ekkamai and Phra Khanong districts to shutter their street-side outlets has come, as Coconuts.co reported.
Apparently the government had a meeting with the locals regarding the matter but they could not find any solution.
“People who sell stuff on the sidewalks, they don’t pay rent. There are so many out there now, so we have to organize society.” said Boontham Huiprasert, a Bangkok district chief.
"The street food of Bangkok is the blood of Bangkok … this is the charm, it is the fame, it is the identity of Bangkok," said Korakot Punlopruksa, a food writer and travel show host, as you can read on Abc.Net.AU .
The city has also been ranked number 2 in the world street food list by CNN but is not stopping the government from already releasing eviction notices around the most popular areas. More news will come in the next weeks!
